5 Top Reasons To Work Out At Home

2013-10-11 08.19.01

Is working out at home better than going to the gym? The only right answer is whatever it takes to get you the exercise you need and helps you reach the goals you’ve set. If you find the only way to get the workout you need is at a gym, great, more power to you. But over 60% of gym memberships sit unused. I find that working out at home eliminates most excuses to skip that daily sweat fest. I am in the best shape of my life, and I have not stepped foot in a gym! There are many reasons staying home works for me but here are just my 5 top reasons to work out at home.

1st Reason to Work Out at Home: Time

When I first started working out the two most important things for me was how to find the time and what to do with my kids.  How was I supposed to go to the gym when I have young children at home?  I came across an infomercial for Insanity on T.V. and thought, this is perfect for me – and it was.  When I put the kids down for a nap, I go downstairs with my baby monitor and push play!  Perfect!

2nd Reason to Work Out at Home: AFFORDABILITY

With over 60% of gym memberships sitting unused, I didn’t want to invest in a gym membership to find out it wasn’t for me. I was already pretty sure it wasn’t my thing. I had no idea how to use all the equipment and wouldn’t have a clue what to do once I got there. I didn’t want to waste my money. But, I could buy a workout like Insanity or P90X, and if it didn’t work, I could return it and get my money back. They offer a no questions asked return policy even after you’ve done the program. I’m glad it worked out for me.

I also didn’t want some enormous and expensive home gym. So I started with a few inexpensive resistance bands to see if it was right for me. I got great results and was never stressed over money.

3rd Reason to Work Out at Home: Brrrrr!

I live in Minnesota.  It’s cold in the winter, and if I don’t have to wake up, get into a cold car and drive to the gym or go for a run,  I’m not going to. Not much debate about this one! Having a warm exercise space only steps away from me squashes my excuse of leaving the house in sub-zero weather. That’s one less obstacle to my goals. You can remove this obstacle easily too.

4th Reason to Work Out at Home: DOESN’T MATTER HOW I LOOK

Not a huge reason for me, but it does come into play some mornings.  I can literally roll out of bed, throw in Body Beast and workout in my underwear, and I have! If I choose too, I get to feel foolish in the privacy of my home. The point is if I want to bust out my 80’s workout gear I can if I want to!

5th Reason to Work Out at Home: YELL, GRUNT, SING

I can and do YELL at the trainer on the T.V. (they don’t get mad at me), GRUNT (no one hears me or laughs at me), SING to the music I have cranked up on Pandora (really glad no one can hear me)! Your workout should be about having fun and getting results, it shouldn’t have to be about looking good while you do it (or sounding good).

I hope this helped to give you a few reasons why working out at home would or maybe would not work for you.  If you think it might, I can help you find a workout that works for you. With any exercise, the key to getting the results you are looking for is really in your nutrition, and I can help with that too.
